Let the Huntington Historical Society bring an educational program to your classroom! Our programs offer your students a way to experience history in a truly hands-on fashion that reinforces New York State’s Social Studies curriculum for grades 1 to 5 and is BOCES-approved. Currently we offer “A Child’s Life in Colonial Huntington” where students experience life in colonial days.

In-School Programs
For Grades 1-5
Let the Huntington Historical Society bring an educational program to your school. Our “History-to-Go programs bring colonial history right into your classroom, offering your students a way to experience history in a truly hands-on fashion that reinforces New York State’s Social Studies curriculum for grades 1 to 5 and is BOCES-approved. Currently we offer two History-to-Go programs: “From Sheep to Shawl” which gives students a hands-on opportunity to transform wool into clothing, and “A Child’s Life in Colonial Huntington” where students experience life in colonial days by playing with colonial toys and performing period children’s chores such as butter churning and weaving.
A Child’s Life in Colonial Huntington
Our educator, dressed in full colonial garb, discusses everyday life as a child in the colonial era. Students learn about and explore “hands-on” a variety of artifacts from the Society including:
