A day for the entire family to enjoy together

At the Conklin Farmhouse Museum on High Street,
to "Olde Tyme Family Fun Day" we must add "Festive."  It was truly a festive day.  "A lovely, lovely day."  "A perfect day for children."  Just some of the quotes from Sunday. 

The puppet show was charming.  It was a wonderful show by Goat on a Boat Puppet Theater entitled "the Princess, the Frog and the Pea."  the Puppet show began at 2 pm and lasted 45 minutes.  It was recommended for children, ages 3 to 10. 

The day celebrated the opening of the Huntington Historical Society's latest exhibit,  "Dolls, Trains and other Toys" , with an afternoon created especially for children.  Crafts, tours of the exhibit and house, delicious refreshments and colonial holiday music by Sampawams Creek music group. 

The Conklin House and all that it has to offer impressed everyone.  It is always a surprise how many people have never been in the Conklin House, "drive by everyday, had no idea all this was here, how wonderful!"   People loved the tour, the exhibit and the Trolley.  The little boy who won the raffle basket, did not go to the puppet show but spent ages watching Toby's trolley.  He was thrilled.  The little" play with the toys" area, was popular, especially the iron banks. 

The best for last.  We were thrilled that Santa, during his busiest time of year, not only stopped at Olde Tyme Family Fun Day but stayed the whole afternoon to the delight of everyone.  I think he was enjoying himself as much as we, especially the children. He got down on their level to have conversations.  That was tough, if you didn't know, Rudolph (who has been a little testy lately, recently kicked Santa in the knee.) 

I have never seen Santa so relaxed.  He took the time to answer questions, watched crafts being made (many cards were made and given to Santa) and always maintained the magic of Christmas and Santa.  He looked marvelous.  We were honored that he took the time and trouble to search his wardrobe for his suit from 150 years ago. The greens and flowers were a beautiful addition.  Santa looked truly glorious.  One mother, who was there from beginning to end, was canceling a Breakfast with Santa this week, "Nothing would be as good as today."
