This Consignment/Antique shop Is popular with the community.The Huntington Historical Society Museum Shop is an emporium of Antiques and Collectibles. It is a quaint consignment store located on the Dr. Daniel Kissam property at 434 Park Avenue.
The shop is now open throughout the year to the delight of its many customers and consigners. It continues to be managed by a staff of dedicated volunteers who accept and sell the stock and keep the books. It not only is an important source of revenue for the Huntington Historical Society, but it furthers the mission of the Society by helping to preserve the past to enhance our future. In addition it helps to make the community aware of the important functions the Society is performing for them.

The
Museum Shop was built as an attachment to the 1790 Kissam Barn a few years after the
barn was moved to the property in 1973. It was originally heated by a wood
burning stove, located in the back corner of the shop, to supplement a hot air,
oil fired heating system and add an air of authenticity to the shop. The all volunteer staff also
used the stove to heat their tea during those cold winter days,
The
idea for the Museum shop was conceived by Polly Cornish, then president of the
Society. She was supported by John Collins, the Executive Director; Mitzi
Caputo, who was then the Education Coordinator; and Grace Wagner (Now Grace
Sorgen, a consistent volunteer at the shop) the executive Secretary. This
is the team that brought the Museum Shop into existence, raised the money to pay
for the shop and made it into the successful revenue source for the Historical
Society which it is today. Many Sunday afternoons they would have auctions
in the barn run by the South Bay Auction company. It has always been an
active organization and a source of satisfaction for the many volunteers who
make it possible.
The
sign over the front window of the shop is replacement for the original.
The original sign was designed
and fabricated by Dunn Signs in Northport. Although repainted and faded,
it represented the initiatives of the shop's founders, and the dedication of its
many volunteer operators over the years. We owe them all a debt of
gratitude.
