Carol A. Maguire, Executive Director of the Huntington Historical SocietyMs. Maguire has lived in Huntington since 1975 and has been a member of the Huntington Historical Society for most of those years. Her volunteer work has included cataloguing a textile collection, teaching historical crafts such as scherenschnitte and quilling, recording oral history and being a docent at the Huntington Historical Society’s Kissam House Museum. Her interest in genealogy led her to the Society’s Genealogy Workshop where she learned the rudiments of genealogy research. Her interest and knowledge has expanded over the years to include giving genealogy lectures and introducing groups of people to historic places and archives. Ms. Maguire has presented the lectures “Under-Utilized Treasures of the National Archives in New York City, Washington, DC and College Park, MD,” and “Houses Can Talk – Finding Information on Your House and Ancestor’s House,” to genealogy groups and historical societies across Long Island. As a licensed real estate associate broker formerly with Daniel Gale, she was a spokesperson for the company during an episode of the House & Garden tv channel's “Fantasy Open House” program. Maguire’s interest in historical preservation also led her to become involved with the "Save the Huntington Lighthouse" organization where she created fund raising events and eventually became President. She holds a B.S. degree in Management and Communication, magna cum laude, from Adelphi University, Garden City, New York, and is a former member of the Huntington Jr. Welfare League and The Head of the Bay Club. |
