On with the Show

On Friday, July 14, 2007, Ken Grimball of Channel 12 came to the Conklin House Exhibit room to film a special on the "Hats off to Huntington" exhibit.  It was a fun day for everyone and our visitors joyfully participated in the filming.   Airing of the special was Thursday, July 20, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00.

What could be more fun?

And three of the four architects of the exhibit have their Moment of Fame.  The Ladies of the Attic take their bows.

And then, we received our "Foundling"

The day after the airing of the special on the Hat exhibit, one of our volunteers was walking around the Conklin House and found a hat box on the front stoop.  We took it into the building and found that it contained a very high quality men's felt hat, inscribed as an "Eden Oval."  The hat box has a note hand written  on it:  "I saw 'Hats' on Channel 12.  Can't bear to discard.  50+ yrs old.  Never worn!"

The box and hat are both inscribed with the name of the manufacturer:  "Rogers Peet Company. New York, Boston, Washington"

Thank you to the person who left this lovely hat in our care, although we would very much prefer that donations be left inside, or at the office.  She/he can be assured we will treat it with the care with which we treat all of our donated artifacts.  And many thanks to Channel 12 for making all this possible.
